Erin is an Independent Marriage and Family Therapist. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Human Services at Purdue University and her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Indiana Wesleyan University. She has worked in several settings including agency, school-based, and private practice and has experience working with individuals of all ages as well as couples and families.
Erin is trained in family systems theory and recognizes the impact a person's relationships and contexts has on his or her mental health. When working with individuals, Erin combines family systems theory with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in order to understand and facilitate change within the individual as well as the system in which they are engaged. Erin has also had training in Emotion Focused Therapy and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. She uses a combination of the two when working with couples to help improve how client’s interact and connect with one another.
Erin has completed the training for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is a form of therapy with strong research and has been shown to reduce a variety of issues such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression, to name a few. EMDR involves reprocessing memories which are stuck in the fight, flight or freeze phase in the brain. See https://www.emdria.org/about-emdr-therapy/ for more information regarding EMDR.
Erin believes the therapist-client relationship can be a supportive, empathic environment in which clients find the strength to make the changes they desire. She has provided counseling for those experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationship issues, grief and loss, and trauma.
