I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the state of Ohio. I received my B.A. in Psychology at Ohio Dominican University in 2010 and my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wright State University in 2015. My experience for the last 5-6 years has been in the community mental health setting. I have advanced experience and training to work with individuals in the SPMI (Severe Persistent Mental Illness), Dual-Disordered (mental health & addiction), major depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, PTSD (acute and chronic/complex, Dissociative Disorders (including DID), domestic violence and other relationship problems, grief, and difficulty with day to day functioning. I have been trained in EMDR which is a cognitive based treatment for PTSD. EMDR treatment can cover trauma throughout the life span or on a single traumatic event. I have also been involved in setting up and initiating Dual-Diagnosed IOP and Aftercare treatment groups for individuals struggling with both mental health and addiction. I have also been a liaison to local courts working with probation officers and judges in drug court programs and involved in treatment teams with Children’s Protective Services (CPS) cases.
Within my world view, I believe our life experiences are what shapes us into the person that we are through impacting our development and understanding of ourselves and others. Many individuals, at some point in their lives, experience hardship in one or multiple life areas and it can be hard to deal with these issues. For clients, I offer a counseling environment that is non-judgmental, safe, and nurturing to assist with healing. I believe the counseling relationship is a partnership between the client and the clinician to work together to increase knowledge/understanding, learn skills and coping mechanisms, and find solutions to problems. I have a unique experience of knowing both sides of the counseling relationship from the client and clinician perspective and I feel that it has personally given me a deeper understanding of how to recognize and approach problems. The first step to any problem is admitting there is a problem and that you need help in dealing with it. This puts us into a position of vulnerability and I know how hard it is to open up to a stranger about your most intimate experiences, thoughts, and feelings.
I am very passionate about helping others and I feel that it is significantly important to have a holistic view addressing our mental, physical, and spiritual needs and concerns. I openly encourage clients to involve their support system (i.e. friends, family, etc), doctors/nurses, and any other third-party involvement that they see as important in treatment. If clients feel they would like to discuss religious or spiritual matters that is another aspect that I would be glad to incorporate. Through the community mental health setting I enjoyed being both a teacher and advocate for clients and community members. I hope through my clinical role to spread more understanding about mental health and addiction to reduce the stigma that has been placed on struggling individuals. I hope this message reaches you and you feel that working with me could be beneficial. I hope we can work together to make lasting changes in your life!
