This training provides new insight into what happens internally when an individual experiences trauma. Utilizing the latest neurobiological research, this training teaches clinicians about the neurobiology of trauma, provides interventions for developing felt safety, and gives insight into how music is linked to some of the same areas of the brain impacted by trauma.
Goals:
Provide evidence based research surrounding trauma
Provide clinicians with a new understanding of how trauma impacts the brain
Objectives:
Educate clinicians regarding the neurobiology of trauma;
Provide interventions that clinicians can utilize in session to assist clients in processing of trauma; Introduce and discuss felt safety and how it can be applied in session
12:00 pm: Introductions
12:30- 1:30: Neurochemicals, limbic system and PolyVagal Theory
1:30- 2:30: Mirror Neurons, ACEs, interventions to use in session
2:30-3:15: introduce how music is used/helpful in being a coping skill, how it is linked to similar areas of the brain that trauma impacts, evaluations/questions
I've been working in the field since 2005 in various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, residential and community mental health. I received my Trauma Responsive Care Certification (TRCC) in 2019, which sparked a vast interest in how trauma is treated and how clinicians can better serve those who have experienced trauma. It has since become my life's work to help those who have been traumatized and the clinicians that serve them.
